January 2025 Update: progress continues at Pointe Santo! Our Sanibel Dream will be completed and accepting renters as of February 1st. Work continues on the pool, spa, and pool deck with anticipated completion in February 2025. Construction of a brand new pool pavilion and community building will begin in 2025!
Hurricane Ian had a devastating impact on Sanibel Island when it made landfall on September 28, 2022, as a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and a storm surge of up to 15 feet. The Sanibel Causeway, the only road connecting the island to the mainland, was severely damaged, cutting off access to the island. Remarkably, the Causeway was reopened just three weeks after Hurricane Ian struck. The island suffered extensive damage and has been rebuilding since late 2022.
The original condo (Unit C2) pictured below suffered extensive damage from the storm, but, fortunately, the buildings maintained their structural integrity.
The unit was completely gutted after Hurricane Ian. Following our purchase in 2023, we began a 100% custom rebuild of the condo inward from the concrete walls. And so began the construction of Our Sanibel Dream!
Progress has been slow, but steady, and we have kept our eyes on the prize that awaits at the end of this process! Completion of Our Sanibel Dream is expected by February 1st. Reconstruction of the community pool and whirlpool are expected to complete in February 2025 and the tennis and pickleball courts have been completed! Pointe Santo is moving forward with plans for a brand new expanded pool deck & pavilion as well as a new office and community building between the B and C buildings (in the former location of the F building).
